Sefaria aids teachers, students at hackathon

How can we use technology to enhance Jewish day school education?

That was the question presented to participants at last week's Atid Day School Innovation Hackathon, an event co-sponsored by the Jewish Education Project, PresenTense and UJA-Federation of New York.

Sefaria hosted the tech support table as educators, developers and students formed teams to “hack” day school education using the principles of design thinking. Our engineers were available via Google Hangout throughout the day to offer Sefaria's resources and help code and design while 12 teams devised problem-solving products for teachers and students. Sara Wolkenfeld, Sefaria's Director of Education, as well as Gabe Winer, Sefaria's new user experience designer, and two of our volunteer developers were on hand to collaborate with teams and spread the word about the technology we provide.

All 12 teams developed innovative prototypes, many of which integrated Sefaria or even used Sefaria's API. The energy in the room was infectious and we were thrilled to be a part of such an innovative event!
