After months of work and extensive user testing (many thanks to all of our testers around the globe!), we are excited to announce that Sefaria’s native app for Android is available for download on the Google Play store.
Sefaria users have long requested a modern Tanakh translation, and we’re pleased to now offer the classic 1985 Jewish Publication Society Tanakh.
When Sefaria launched in 2013, co-founders Joshua Foer and Brett Lockspeiser dreamt of creating a free, open source, online library of Jewish texts in Hebrew and in translation. Three years later, Sefaria boasts more than 50,000 unique visitors per month, 36,000 user-created source sheets, and a library of over 60 million words.
In just two years we’ve added more than 50 million words to our open source library; facilitated the creation of more than 20,000 source sheets; powered 12 third-party educational apps; and reached 36,000 monthly users. As the new year approaches, we wanted to share an overview of what’s next for Sefaria.
Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection, and as we look back on the past two years, we are thankful that you have joined the Sefaria community.
