Tomorrow begins the Nine Days until Tisha B'Av, a time of somber mourning for the destruction of the first and second Temples. To support your study at this time of reflection, Sefaria has dozens of options that fit right into the palm of your hand--you can even access the Book of Lamentations from your mobile device if you attend a reading next week.
  • First, download our app if you haven't already—it'll make it easy to follow along in services when the time comes.
  • Check out our many options for reading Lamentations, or Eikhah. We have seven in English and five in Hebrew—including one in Modern Hebrew that we highly recommend.
  • Read Kinnot for Tisha B'Av day and night and access these beautiful poems of mourning, available in our library for study and prayer.
  • The Shabbat before Tisha B'Av is known as Shabbat Chazon—or the Shabbat of Vision. While it is a tragic haftarah, it also brings with it the promise of hope. Explore it in-depth with commentaries on Sefaria—we've even highlighted some of the more uplifting and encouraging passages.
  • Access Eikhah Rabbah and its connected texts. This ancient compilation of moral lessons, teachings, stories and interpretations gleaned from Eikhah is available with partial English translation along with our full collection of Midrash Rabbah.
We hope that Sefaria's Torah resources provide you with insight and opportunities for reflection as you prepare for Tisha B'Av.

We send our blessings for a meaningful Tisha B'Av,

Team Sefaria
