Status Report: Mishnah and Tosefta
This is another in a series of posts giving the status of various things here at Sefaria. This post is focusing on the Mishnha and the Tosefta. What We Have
We took our Mishnah text from WikiSource, and reviewed it for errors. The Mishnah was also the target of our very first crowd sourcing translation campaign (how long ago that now seems). After the crowd-sourcing campaign was done, we hired a team to review the translations for consistency, voice, and accuracy. We also have two of the major classical Mishnah commentaries - Rav Ovadia M'Bartinura and the Tosafot Yom Tov from OYW.
The Tosefta text is from the edition printed in the Vilna shas.
What We Are Doing
We're currently OCRing a lot of the text that is printed in the standard Vilna edition of the Talmud. This includes Rambam's commentary on the Mishnah, and the Tosefta commentaries Chasdei David, Minchat Bikkurim, Ohr Haganuz, Magen Avraham, Hagahot Ha-Gra, and a few others. We hope to start posting these in April or May.
In the longer term, we would like to digitize the three main Tosefta manuscripts - Vienna, Erfurt, and London so that people can see all three and compare them. We will also be adding other Mishnah commentaries like Tifferet Yisrael (better known as Yachin and Boaz) and the Rash m'Sens.
What else would you like to see in the Mishnah and Tosefta areas? Let us know in the comments if you have other ideas.
